3. Eligibility to rent
By making a booking, you confirm that you are at least 18 years of age, legally able to enter into a contract, and that the information you provide during checkout is accurate.
The customer who makes the booking is responsible for the bike, accessories, access codes, rental period, any supervised minor rider, and the return process connected to that booking.
4. Rental usage and age requirement
Bikes may be rented only by customers who are at least 18 years of age. Customers under 18 years of age are not allowed to make a booking, rent a bike, create a rental contract, or receive access codes directly from Free2bike.
A person under 18 years of age may use a rented bike only if the bike has been rented by an adult customer who is at least 18 years old, and only under that adult customer’s supervision and responsibility.
The adult customer who makes the booking is fully responsible for any minor who uses a rented bike under that booking. This responsibility includes, without limitation, safe riding, proper use of the bike, compliance with traffic rules, correct locking and return, damage to the bike or equipment, late return, loss, theft, injury, property damage, fines, penalties, third-party claims, complaints, or legal actions caused by or connected with the minor’s use of the rented bike.
Free2bike may refuse, cancel, or terminate a rental if it reasonably believes that a bike is being rented directly by a person under 18 years of age, used without appropriate adult supervision, or used in a way that creates safety, legal, or property risk.
5. Booking and rental period
A booking is confirmed only after successful online payment and after Free2bike issues booking information or access details to the customer.
The rental period starts and ends according to the selected booking date and time. Customers are responsible for picking up and returning the bike within the booked period.
- Hourly rentals are valid only for the selected time slot.
- Daily rentals are valid only for the selected rental dates.
- Late return may affect the customer’s security deposit and may create additional charges.
6. Prices, payment, and taxes
Rental prices are shown on the website before checkout. The total amount payable may include the rental price, applicable taxes, and a refundable security deposit.
Online payments are processed by the payment provider available at checkout. Free2bike does not store full payment card details on its website.
If VAT or other taxes apply, they will be shown during checkout where technically available. Bulgaria’s standard VAT rate is 20%, according to official Ministry of Finance information.
7. Security deposit
A refundable security deposit may be charged together with the rental payment. The deposit helps protect Free2bike against late return, damage, missing equipment, improper locking, loss, or breach of these Terms.
After the bike is returned, Free2bike reviews the return condition and may:
- refund the full deposit;
- refund part of the deposit and withhold part of it;
- withhold the full deposit if there is a serious issue.
Refunds are normally returned to the original payment method. After Free2bike issues a refund, the exact time for the money to appear depends on the customer’s card issuer, bank, or payment provider.
8. Pickup and access codes
After successful booking, the customer may receive access information such as pickup PIN, return PIN, chain lock code, bike information, pickup instructions, and return instructions.
Access codes are personal to the booking and must not be shared with anyone else. The customer is responsible for keeping all access codes secure and using them only during the rental period.
Access codes are provided only for bike pickup and return. They must not be used for any other purpose, including access by third parties, storage of personal belongings, delivery or collection of objects, or any activity unrelated to the customer’s own bike rental.
9. Customer photos at pickup and return
Customers may be asked to upload photos at pickup and return. These photos help document the condition of the bike, accessories, and lock position.
- Pickup photos should show the bike condition before riding.
- Return photos should show the bike properly locked and its return condition.
- Photos may be used by Free2bike to review deposit refunds and resolve disputes.
10. Responsible bike use
Customers must use the bike responsibly and in accordance with applicable traffic rules, safety requirements, and local conditions.
The customer agrees to:
- check that the bike appears safe before starting the ride;
- ride carefully and respect pedestrians, drivers, and other cyclists;
- use lights or safety equipment where needed;
- lock the bike securely whenever it is not in use;
- avoid using the bike in a way that may damage it or create risk to others;
- not use the bike while under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or substances affecting safe riding;
- not transfer the bike, access codes, or booking to another person without Free2bike’s consent.
11. Personal belongings left at the rental office
Free2bike is not responsible for any personal belongings, valuables, bags, clothing, documents, electronic devices, money, or other items left behind, forgotten, stored, misplaced, lost, stolen, or damaged at the rental office, pickup location, return location, or any other Free2bike-related area.
Customers are responsible for keeping their personal belongings with them at all times. Free2bike does not provide luggage storage, personal item storage, cloakroom services, safekeeping services, or any similar service.
If Free2bike finds personal belongings left behind, Free2bike may, at its discretion, attempt to contact the customer. However, Free2bike does not accept liability for the condition, safety, availability, or return of such items.
12. Prohibited storage and access-code misuse
It is strictly prohibited to store, leave, hide, deposit, or keep any personal belongings, luggage, packages, goods, documents, valuables, equipment, or other objects at the rental office, pickup location, return location, or any other Free2bike-related area during the bike rental period or at any other time.
It is also strictly prohibited to provide pickup PINs, return PINs, chain lock codes, account access information, or any other Free2bike access information to third parties. Access codes are personal to the booking customer and must be used only for the legitimate pickup and return of the rented bike or bikes.
Customers must not leave any object at the rental office or any Free2bike-related area and then provide access PINs or other access information to a third party so that the third party can enter, collect, deliver, store, exchange, inspect, move, or otherwise handle such object.
Any use of the rental office, pickup location, return location, access system, or Free2bike access codes for storage, delivery, exchange, transfer, collection, or handling of personal belongings or third-party objects is strictly prohibited.
Any such event, attempted event, suspicious behavior, suspected misuse of access codes, unauthorized third-party access, or suspected use of the rental office for storage, delivery, exchange, or collection of objects may be reported directly to the police or other competent authorities.
Free2bike may cancel or terminate a booking, refuse future rentals, withhold part or all of the security deposit, restrict access, or take other reasonable measures if it believes that a customer has misused access codes, allowed unauthorized access, stored objects, or used the rental office or access system for any prohibited purpose.
13. Damage, loss, theft, and missing equipment
The customer must notify Free2bike as soon as possible if the bike is damaged, stolen, lost, involved in an accident, not working properly, or if any equipment is missing.
The customer may be responsible for losses caused by misuse, negligence, failure to lock the bike properly, late return, missing accessories, or breach of these Terms.
14. Return of the bike
The bike must be returned to the correct return location and properly locked before the end of the booked rental period. The customer must follow the return instructions provided by Free2bike.
A return may be considered incomplete if the bike is left in the wrong location, not locked correctly, returned after the booked period, returned with missing equipment, or returned without required return information/photos where requested.
15. Cancellations, changes, and right of withdrawal
Customers should contact Free2bike as soon as possible if they need to change or cancel a booking. Change and cancellation options may depend on the start time of the rental, bike availability, and whether the service has already started.
For online service bookings, EU consumer rules may provide a 14-day right of withdrawal for many distance contracts. However, where a customer asks for a service to start before the end of the withdrawal period, the right of withdrawal may be affected once the service has been performed. Customers should review the checkout information and contact Free2bike with any questions before booking.
16. Refunds
Rental refunds, if any, are handled according to the circumstances of the booking, timing of cancellation, service start, and applicable consumer rights.
Deposit refunds are handled separately from rental refunds. A full or partial deposit refund depends on the condition and return review of the bike and equipment.
17. Account and order information
Customers may receive access to account pages where they can view orders, rental details, customer timeline, access information, and photo upload options.
Customers are responsible for keeping their login details private and for notifying Free2bike if they suspect unauthorized access to their account or rental information.
18. Availability and service interruptions
Free2bike tries to keep bikes, access systems, website features, and customer information available and working. However, temporary interruptions may occur due to maintenance, technical problems, payment provider issues, internet problems, lock/access system problems, or circumstances outside Free2bike’s control.
If a confirmed rental cannot be provided due to a Free2bike issue, Free2bike may offer a replacement bike, alternative rental time, refund, or other reasonable solution depending on the situation.
19. Limitation of liability
Cycling involves normal risks, including traffic, road conditions, weather, pedestrians, other vehicles, personal injury, and property damage. Customers are responsible for choosing routes and riding in a way that matches their ability, local conditions, and applicable laws.
The customer is solely responsible for the way they use the rented bike or bikes during the rental period. Free2bike is not responsible for damage, injury, loss, fines, penalties, claims, complaints, or legal actions brought by third parties where these arise from the customer’s use, misuse, parking, locking, handling, or operation of the rented bike or bikes.
This includes, without limitation, damage caused to pedestrians, vehicles, public property, private property, buildings, other bicycles, scooters, animals, or any other third-party person or property during the customer’s rental period.
The customer agrees to indemnify and hold Free2bike harmless from third-party claims, costs, damages, penalties, legal expenses, or liabilities arising from the customer’s use of the rented bike or bikes, except where such liability is caused directly by Free2bike’s own unlawful conduct, intentional misconduct, or gross negligence.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where such exclusion or limitation is not allowed by law.
20. Personal data
Free2bike may process customer information for booking, payment, access control, support, deposit review, security, accounting, and legal compliance purposes.
A separate Privacy Policy should explain what personal data is collected, how it is used, how long it is kept, and what rights customers have.
21. Changes to these Terms
Free2bike may update these Terms from time to time. The version published on the website at the time of booking applies to that booking unless a change is required by law or is more favorable to the customer.
22. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are intended to be governed by the laws of Bulgaria, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer protection rights that may apply.
Customers are encouraged to contact Free2bike first so that any issue can be resolved quickly and fairly. Consumer protection authorities may also have competence in relation to consumer disputes and distance contracts in Bulgaria.
